Changing the "planned" dates

Hi,
I've got a task of 1 day's work that was originally planned with a duration of 5 days.
The resource has now told me that she will do the work on a single day, due to vacation days.
I added the vacation days into her calendar, fixed the given start and end dates, and changed the given duration to 1 day.

However, the planned duration is still showing 5 days, equating to over 28 edays, because of her planned vacation.

I can't seem to make the gantt chart show the new reality, which means all other dependant tasks are now pushed by 4 weeks.

The only way I can make it show the task just taking one day is to mark the task as complete.

Is there a better way?

There are various approaches to scheduling above.
Will this work happen in overtime? That means outside the regular working times? If so, this is how you plan overtime activities:

Another way, maybe simpler is to set the 'given duration' as e-unit.

In this case you write…

The resource has now told me that she will do the work on a single day,

What exactly does this single day mean? 8 hours? Or 24 effective hours of a day?

For first, you can enter in 'given duration' 1 eday (or 24 ehours)
For latter, you enter in 'given duration' 8 ehours

This is similar to the 'Example placing a concrete slab' illustrated as a third example in the following link:

This work will be done during a normal working day.
I tried your second suggestion, changing the given duration to 1eday or 8ehours. It's made no difference. The planned duration still showed 5 days, and expected duration as 21 days/28.38 edays.

But then I noticed that the Resource Units were set at 20%. I changed that to 100% and the Gantt chart then behaves as I would expect - with a duration showing of 1 day, even though the planned duration is still showing 5 days for some reason.

So, I've got a Gantt that's working, but I'm not sure why.

After having checked the project. This was not an error or a misconfiguration. The planned duration was showing 5 days, because in the project Settings > General > Dynamic Baseline a Reference Date in the past was selected. And on that specific time point, the planned duration was indeed 5 days. Dynamic Baseline is a new feature in version 9. You may use it to compare your current planning to your planning in the past.
